Panel Replacement or Service upgrade
Federal Pacific electrical panels have been outlawed since the late 70's. Home inspectors are now condemning these systems during the sale of existing homes and requiring the removal and replacement of these panels. The cost and the work required to perform this task can vary greatly depending on the code violations built into the existing system. The violations usually include the location, size, and make-up of the existing service. Electrical panels are no longer allowed to be located in closets or areas that do not provide adequate access. The wire size and wiring method must be as designed in the code book. The riser must be adequate to provide support for the service and appropriate clearance from the ground for an overhead service. These same factors must be taken into consideration when determining the work required for a service upgrade. The good news is that we will come out and provide upfront pricing and a detailed written quote for your specific needs.

Add Grounding system or complete rewire
Some services in older homes have ungrounded branch circuits. These systems only have two wires for each circuit and two prong receptacles. These receptacles do not have the third ground prong because they do not contain the third wire required for that purpose. It is illegal to install three prong receptacles on these circuits. In some cases a ground wire can be added at each receptacle. In the event the system is Knob and Tube wiring, a complete rewire is recommended.
